Lynchburg Baseball Splits at Washington & Lee Monday

LEXINGTON, VA - The Lynchburg College baseball team split an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) doubleheader with the Generals of Washington & Lee University Monday, falling in game one 5-4 before rebounding to take the nightcap 9-5.
In game one, the Hornet pitching staff could not hold a three-run lead going into the seventh inning as the Generals (14-6/5-4 ODAC) knocked off LC 5-4. Byron Peyster delivered a one-out RBI single for the game-winner, after Drew Dezen doubled in two runs to tie the game at four.
Senior Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) finished the opener two-for-three with a RBI and run scored, while Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) posted a hit, run and two knocked in.
In game two, LC (17-9/7-1 ODAC) trailed going into the top of the seventh frame but posted four in the inning along with three in the eight and two in the ninth to give the Hornets a 9-5 win. Lynchburg pounded out 15 hits on the game, though only one was for extra bases.
Sophomore Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) had a banner game, going five-for-six with three RBI, extending his hitting streak up to 13 games. Grant was three-for-four with two RBI and two runs, while Bradley and Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River) each supplied two hits and two runs scored.
Senior right hander Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) moved to 4-2 on the season with the win, surrendering one earned while scattering eight hits over seven innings of work.
Jim Plantholt led the Generals in game one with two hits in as many at-bats, while John Ditore was four-for-five with two runs and two RBI in the night cap.
The Hornets will travel to Hampden-Sydney College for a league tussle with the Tigers Wednesday at 3 p.m.
