Thanks to the efforts of the student-led Alliance for Energy Awareness, Lynchburg College is a Flagship Campus for Earth Hour, a worldwide effort to turn off the lights at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, March 28.

Weather permitting, students will be meeting in the Dell at 8:30 p.m. to celebrate Earth Hour with the rest of the world.

"We are asking the community to join us with their musical instruments and natural energy with the theme, ‘Rock Out With Your Power Out,'" said  Amanda D'Arcy, president of AFEA. "We are hoping others will turn off their lights, desktops, and even cell phones to power down and be in solidarity."

Earth Hour, hosted by the World Wildlife Fund, started three years ago. More than 100 cities in the U.S. and more than 1,500 cities and major monuments, including the Eiffel Tower in Paris, will turn out the lights for one hour to demonstrate their commitment to finding a solution for climate change.
