Lynchburg College seniors Matthew R. Vickers and Peter J. DeVall won LC's First Annual Concerto Competition and will perform with the Lynchburg College Orchestra on March 20 at 7:30 p.m. in Sydnor Performance Hall, Schewel Hall. The concert is free and open to the public.

Vickers, a vocal performance major from Telford, Pa., received the vocal award for his tenor performance of Cantata 55, "Ich arme Mensch, ich Sunderknecht" by Johann Sebastian Bach. He studies voice with Dr. Jong H. Kim, professor of music and director of choral activities/graduate studies in music. Vickers is a member of the LC Concert Choir and Choral Union and serves as the choral librarian/assistant to Dr. Kim. He is also a soloist intern at the Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church in Lynchburg. He has performed with Opera on the James and in the annual LC Theatre musical production.

DeVall, a music performance major from Gansevoort, N.Y., will perform the "Violin Concerto in D minor, Opus 47" by Jean Sibelius. He studies violin under music instructor Ellen Habitzruther. DeVall is the concert master for both the LC Orchestra and Wind Symphony. He is also president of the Canterbury Club and a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

Students receiving honorable mention will also perform.

Teresa Crist, a sophomore from Fall Church, Va., will perform "Cello Concerto #1 in A minor" by Camille Saint-Saens accompanied by David Hill. She studies in the cello studio of Bruce Habitzruther.

Anna Piddubna, a sophomore from the Ukraine, will perform the "Violin Concerto in D Major" by Peter Tchaikovsky accompanied by Rose Peak. She studies in the violin studio of Ellen Habitzruther.

Francis Longaker, a senior from Roanoke, Va., will perform the "Piano Concerto #11 in F Major" by Wolfgang Mozart accompanied by Dr. Cynthia B. Ramsey, with whom he studies piano.

Sara Veazey, a sophomore from Middletown, Del., will sing "O Mio Babbino Cara" by Giacomo Puccini; "Poor Wondering One" by W.S. Gilbert & Arthur Sullivan; and "Ach, ich fuhls" by Wolfgang Mozart accompanied by Dana Ballard. She studies in the vocal studio of Jessica A. Burkey.
