TERRE HAUTE, IN - The No. 13 Lynchburg men's indoor track and field team was represented well this weekend, as senior Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) and junior Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, VA/Damascus) both earned All-American honors at the 2009 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The event, which was hosted by Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Sports and Recreation Center, was held over the last two days in Terre Haute, Indiana. The top eight finishers in each event were named to the All-American list.
Edwards finished seventh in the triple jump, as he bounded a distance of 47 feet, one inch (14.35m). The All-American honor was Edwards first of his career at LC, after being named the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Athlete of the Meet at the league championship meet two weekends ago.
Flynn earned his second career All-American honor Saturday, and his first in indoor track as he finished fifth in the 5000 meter run. Flynn earned a time of 14:35.87 in the meet's longest event, which is 25 laps around the 200 meter track. He won both the 5000 and mile events at the ODAC Championships.
Lynchburg freshman James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) competed in the pole vault, failing to clear a height in the event. Bell had qualified last weekend at the Virginia Tech Last Chance Meet, vaulting over a height of 16 feet, 1 ¼ inches.
Edwards also ran in the 55 meter dash Friday evening, failing to qualify for the finals. Edwards ran a 6.48, putting him sixth in his heat and 12th overall.
Lynchburg hosts the Lynchburg Invitational on Shellenberger Field next Saturday.
