Sean Campbell Leads LC Baseball to 20-8 Win Over Penn State-Harrisburg

LC Box Score vs. Penn State-Harrisburg

LYNCHBURG, VA - Junior designated hitter Sean Campbell (White Plains, NY/White Plains) collected four hits in his first collegiate start as the No. 14 Lynchburg College baseball team defeated Penn State-Harrisburg 20-8 in non-conference play from Fox Field Wednesday.

Penn-State Harrisburg blasted out in front earlier, scoring seven first inning runs, though six were unearned. The Hornets powered back with five runs in the bottom half, highlighted by a two-run single by sophomore Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem).

LC (10-6) turned on the offense after that, scoring a run in every inning of the ballgame except the eighth. The Hornets scored two in the second, three in the third, three in sixth and finished their scoring with five in the seventh frame.

Lynchburg also held the Nittany Lions (0-3) to one run over the last eight innings, thanks to the combined efforts of relievers Keith Yancey (Keysville, VA/Randolph-Henry) and Robbie Garrett (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin).

Campbell finished the contest four-for-five with four runs and three runs batted in. Junior Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) was three-for-five with three runs and a homer, while Colquhoun also ended with three hits, two runs and a pair of RBI. Shortstop Daniel Haugh (Earlysville, VA/Albemarle) posted his sixth multi-hit game of the season with a single and a double.

Sophomore third baseman Jordan Watkins (Freeland, MD/Hereford) had three hits in six at-bats, and David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) contributed two hits and three runs. On the hill, Yancey went four and third innings allowing five hits and one run, while Garrett tossed three scoreless frames, fanning four hitters.

Junior Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) had a record-breaking contest as well for LC, as he posted two hits, four runs, three RBI and four stolen bases. With his theft of third base in the third inning, Taylor became LC's all-time stolen base king, totaling 48 through only a little over two seasons of service.

PSU-H was paced by Garret Piper and his two-for-five, two run day, while Matt Umberger and Corey Latsha both had a pair of hits for the visitors.

Lynchburg concludes its six-game homestand on Friday as the Jumbos of Tufts University come to Fox Field for a non-conference tussle at 3 p.m.
