LYNCHBURG, VA - The No. 13 Lynchburg College men's indoor track and field team, under the direction of Head Coach Dr. Jack Toms, will send three athletes to the NCAA Indoor Championships this weekend in Terre Haute, IN.
Senior Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier), who was named Athlete of the Meet at the ODAC Championships, will compete in two events at the national meet. Edwards will enter the 55 meters after qualifying 12th, while also qualifying 10th nationally in the triple jump.
Junior distance star Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) qualified to compete in the 5,000 meter event, where he has the fourth-best time in the nation this season. Flynn won both the mile and 5K events at the league championship meet, and was an All-American in cross country this fall.
Edwards and Flynn will be joined in Indiana by freshman James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River). Bell qualified last weekend at the Virginia Tech Last Chance meet, as he cleared 16 feet, 1 ¼ inches in the pole vault, which is seventh-best nationally.
The top eight finishers in each event receive All-American honors at the NCAA Championship meet. "We are really excited and confident about all three of our student-athletes competing this weekend," said Dr. Toms. "We think that all three have a strong chance at receiving All-American honors," added Toms.
The NCAA meet, which is being hosted by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in the Sports and Recreation Center, starts Friday and concludes Saturday night. Live stats and times, along with video will be available at the meet website, which can be accessed at the link above.
