#11 Lynchburg Men's Lax Topples Fifth Ranked Cabrini 16-11

LYNCHBURG, VA - The No. 11 Lynchburg College men's lacrosse team scored its biggest win of the season so far, as the Hornets came from behind to knock off No. 5 Cabrini College in non-conference action from Shellenberger Field Saturday.

Lynchburg got off to a hot start, scoring two goals in the first 1:16 of the contest. However, Cabrini stormed back with a 4-2 run to even the score at 4-4 after the end of the first quarter. The Cavaliers took a 6-4 advantage after 8:52 left in the half, but the Hornets utilized a 5-1 run the remainder of the half to go into intermission up 9-7.

CC came out of intermission strong, tallying three of the first four scores to even the game up at 10-10 with 1:35 remaining in the third. Robert Flintoff (Suffolk, VA/Nansemond-Suffolk) then scored a momentum building goal with just eight seconds to go in the third to provide the Hornets with a one-goal lead going into the decisive fourth quarter. LC took control of the game in the final quarter, torching the nets with five goals on just seven shots as the Hornets outscored the Cavaliers 5-1 to close out the game.

Eddie Bilinkas (Randolph, NJ/Randolph) led a trio of three-goal scorers as he posted three goals, two assists, and four groundballs. Tyler Tolson (Lutherville, MD/Loyola Blakefield) found the back of the net three times and Dylan Hoff (Chester Springs, PA/Downington East) posted a hat trick. Austin Jeter (Coppell, TX/Episcopal School of Dallas) came off the bench to provide LC with two goals and one assist, and Michael Mundorf (Cambridge, MD/Mt. Saint Joseph) and Jon Matta (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) each added two in the winning cause. Franc Cook (Milton, DE/Cape Henlopen) had an outstanding day in the cage, recording 10 groundballs and 14 saves with 10 in the crucial second-half where Lynchburg held the Cavaliers to just four goals.

Matt Conaway paced Cabrini (3-1) with four goals and one assist and Paul Skulski added on a score and a helper. Mike Dolente controlled the face-offs, winning 17 of his 24 attempts and scooping up eight groundballs. Kevin Chenoweth notched eight saves and seven groundballs, but only stopped two shots after halftime as the Hornets found the back of the net seven times.

Cabrini went 19-31 on face-offs and corralled 35 groundballs to 42 for Lynchburg. The Cavaliers also held a 42-35 edge in shots, but was just 14-19 on clear attempts compared to 23-for-27 for the Hornets. Cabrini had four extra-man opportunities but failed to convert on all four.

The Hornets (4-1) head up to Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday to battle Denison University on a neutral field at St. Anne's-Belfield School.
