Hornet Softball Defeats Wilkes 12-3
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Lynchburg College softball team defeated Wilkes University 12-3 in six innings in the first game of the Virginia Wesleyan College Tournament.
Katie Bruce (Lanexa, VA/Lafayette) pitched five innings, allowing just five hits and walking none en route to the win. Bruce also had a fine day in the batter's box, going 2-4 and hitting a grand slam. Freshman Taylor Walker (Poquoson, VA/Poquoson) hit her second homerun of the season and added on two RBI and two runs while going 1-3 at the plate. Tara Campbell (Leesburg, VA/Loudoun Co.) recorded three hits and two runs and drove in three hornets, Brittany Allsop (Milford, CT/Johnathan Law) scored twice on two hits, and Rachel Gallagher (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) was 2-for-3 at the plate.
The Hornets play Alleghany College later today at 4 p.m. and will battle Rowan and Peace College Saturday at noon and 4 p.m. to conclude the Virginia Wesleyan Tourney.
