A semester-long course called "Couscous and Paella" will take 25 Lynchburg College students to Morocco and Spain over spring break from March 5 to 16.

The trip is woven into an international relations course which examines the Muslim influence on southern Spain through the historical context of the Moorish occupation and the current wave of immigration from Morocco to Spain. Major themes in the course look at the historical and political impact of Islam in Spain as well its influence on art and architecture.

Students will explore cities such as Seville and Granada in southern Spain before taking the ferry to Morocco to take in the sights and culture of Marrakech and Casablanca.

Dr. Ed DeClair, assistant dean for international programs, Barbara Rothermel, director of the Daura Gallery and museum studies coordinator, Dr. Kern Lunsford, professor of Spanish and chair of the Modern Languages Department, and Dr. Kate Gray, associate professor of English.
