Hornet Men Indoor Tracksters Race Up National Rankings
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College men's indoor track team, fresh off its 12th consecutive Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championship, was recently slated at No. 13 on the latest United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) poll.
The Hornets have been honored in the top 30 all season on the poll, and are currently the top-ranked school in the South/Southeast region as well. "This is huge," said LC men's head mentor and ODAC Coach of the Year Dr. Jack Toms.
LC won the conference title last Friday night, as the Hornets posted 220.50 points for the championship meet, which was second all-time to the Hornets' 247.50 points back in 2005. Senior Brandon Edwards (Warrenton, VA/Fauquier) was named the men's Athlete of the Meet, after he won four events, qualifying nationally for the triple jump and 55 meters.
Junior Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, VA/Damascus) continued his reign as the league's top distance runner, as he won both the 5,000 meter and mile events. Flynn has qualified for the national meet already, and will try to become a two-time All-American this season as he already accomplished that feat in cross country this fall.
The men's indoor track team is back in action this Saturday as it travels to Blacksburg, VA for a last chance meet at Virginia Tech.
