Hornet Women’s Track Takes Third Place at ODAC Championships

 

Kyra Richardson posted two third-place finishes for LC Friday night.            LYNCHBURG, VA – The Lynchburg College women’s indoor track & field team placed third in an exciting finish Friday at the 2009 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championships, hosted at Liberty University’s Tolsma Center. Washington & Lee University won the team title with 120 points, Roanoke College took second with 116 and LC was third with 110. General Elizabeth Webb and Maroon Robin Yerkes shared Athlete of the Meet honors and W&L mentor Nate Hoey was named the ODAC Coach of the Year.

 

            Hornet sophomore Ashley Allen (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) won the weight throw for the Hornets with a heave of 3.18 meters. Junior Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) scored in three different events, taking second in the mile in 5:14.44, fourth in the 800 in 2:23.75 and fifth in the 5,000. Sophomore Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) also had a strong day, finishing third in the 800 (2:22.47) and in the 5,000. 

 

            Sophomore Daphne Desrosiers (Pembroke Pines, FL/Killingly) broke the school record with a time of 7.40 in the 55-meter dash preliminaries, and took fourth in the event with a time of 7.42 in the finals. Kyra Richardson (Midlothian, VA/Midlothian) was third in the long jump (5.26 meters) and the 200-meter dash (26.70) and fifth in 55-meter dash (7.46), while Krystle Landes (Staunton, VA/Wilson) took second in the 400 (1:00.26) and fourth in the 200 (26.72). Jill Dziewisz (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) cleared 3.18 meters to take second in the pole vault and Christina Washington (Silver Spring, MD/Springbrook) was third in the 400 in 1:00.46.

           

Both women’s relay teams finished second. The distance medley relay team of Megan Donnelly (McLean, VA/McLean), Amanda Johnston (Middletown, DE/Caravel Academy), Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) and Lindsay Fender (Fork Union, VA/Fluvanna) finished in 13:46.87 while the 4x400 squad of Landes, Washington, Jessica Gibbs (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) and Olivia Johnston finished in 4:05.99

 

            The Hornets will have opportunities to try and qualify for national competition this Sunday and next Saturday at the George Mason and Virginia Tech Last Chance Meets, respectively.
