LC Women Finish Season with 75-48 Defeat to Roanoke at ODAC Tournament

LC Box Score (ODAC Tournament)

Courtney Brewer had a team-high 12 points in Thursday's loss to Roanoke. SALEM, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team finished its season Thursday afternoon, as the Hornets dropped a quarterfinal matchup to No. 1 seeded Roanoke College 75-48 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Tournament play.

LC (9-17) led 4-3 after a Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) jumper with 17:34 to go in the first half. After that point, it was all Roanoke as the Maroons went on a 16-2 run over the next five minutes to go up 19-6. Roanoke (23-3) would extend its lead up to as much as 26 points in the first stanza.

The Maroons were sparked by 16 first-half points from junior guard Caitlyn Long, while sophomore center Jordan Gholson posted eight points, five boards and seven blocks. Lynchburg was led by Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) and her six points and four boards.

In the second half, the Hornets could not cut into the Roanoke bulge, which remained in the twenties most of the period. Lynchburg was paced by the 12 points of Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland), as she finished five-for-nine from the floor, hitting two-of-three from downtown.

Lucas ended the afternoon with nine points and a game-high eight rebounds, while Darby concluded her junior campaign with an eight point, seven rebound performance.

Roanoke got a great individual effort from Gholson, who finished with 17 points (8-12 shooting), 10 blocks and seven rebounds. Her block total is a new single-game ODAC Tournament record, breaking a mark set last season by Bridgewater's Rebecca Henderson.

Long finished with 16 points, while Erin Jenkins and Jaleesa Osborne has 15 and 12 points, respectively. Roanoke outshot the Hornets from the field, 50.9% to 26.7%, but were outrebounded 47-38 by Lynchburg.

The Hornets finish their season with a 9-17 overall record, going 7-13 in the conference.
