Gaines, Jr. Goes Yard Twice in LC Baseball 10-1 Win Over Roanoke

LC Box Score vs. Roanoke

FAYETTEVILLE, NC - Lynchburg College outfielder David Gaines, Jr. (Lynchburg, VA/Jefferson Forest) blasted two homeruns as the No. 14 Hornet baseball team knocked off Roanoke College 10-1 in non-conference action from Methodist University Saturday.

The junior right fielder hit his first of the afternoon in the bottom of the first, as LC scored a pair of runs in the first frame. Gaines, Jr. hit his second of the day in the bottom of the eighth, plating Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage).

LC never trailed in the ball game, as the Hornets supplemented their first inning with single runs in the second, fourth and sixth innings. LC doubled its total with a five-spot in the eighth, putting the game away for good.

Gaines, Jr. finished three-for-four with three RBI and two runs scored. Junior first baseman Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River) continued his hot hitting of late going three-for-four with a run and RBI, as all but one Hornet starter recorded at least one hit Saturday night.

Junior backstop Ryan Litz (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) finished with a two hits, while helping the Hornets pitching staff to a solid performance. Starter Joe Devlin (Ashburn, VA/Broad Run) went eight strong innings, allowing no earned runs while scattering seven hits and earning his second win of the season.

LC (6-3) will be back in action tomorrow as it takes on Methodist University at 4 p.m. in more non-conference play.
