Records Fall as Hornet Men Run at Boston Valentines Invite

BOSTON -- Junior Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) became the Lynchburg College all-time record holder in the 5,000 meters Saturday as the Hornet distance runners traveled to the Boston University Valentines Invitational.

Flynn finished first in the 5,000 meter run, as he posted a time of 14.28.98, besting the 16-year old record of 14:41 held by Gregg Caviliere,'93. Flynn now holds the best time in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) this season in that event, while his finish was also the third-fastest in Division III this year.

Rich Apgar (Somers, NY/Somers) and brother Todd Apgar (Somers, NY/Somers) each competed well in the mile run for LC. Rich Apgar finished 77th overall with a time of 4:23.78, while Todd posted a 4:28.93, good for 102nd place.

LC also got solid performances from freshman Lawrence Minor (Mineral, VA/Louisa) and junior Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park). Minor placed 87th in the 5,000 meter run with a 16:22, while Van Alstine clocked a 8:44 in the 3,000 meter run earning 59th place.

The Hornets will travel to Virginia Tech Friday and Saturday night.
