LC Box Score vs. UMPI

LYNCHBURG, VA - Sophomore catcher Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) and junior outfielder David Gaines, Jr. (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) each connected for homeruns as the No. 14 Lynchburg College baseball team defeated the University of Maine at Presque Isle 22-2 Monday afternoon in the non-conference home opener for LC.

Lynchburg (4-2) never trailed as the Hornets scored 15 runs in the first four innings to give LC a comfortable advantage. Colquhoun homered to highlight a five-run second stanza, while Gaines, Jr. connected for a three-run bomb in the fourth inning.

The Hornet pitching was excellent all afternoon, as UM-Presque Isle (0-3) was only able to manage two runs on two hits, with neither run being earned. Rich Glover (Bedford, VA/Liberty) got the win for Lynchburg, as he allowed one hit in three innings, fanning three Owl hitters.

Freshman Michael Straub (Falls Church, VA/George Mason) went two innings in relief, while Josh Youngman (Chesterfield, VA/Manchester), Matt Morgan (Bedford, VA/Liberty) and Robbie Garrett (Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) all worked perfect frames late.

Gaines, Jr. finished with two hits in three at-bats, scoring three times and driving in five. Colquhoun posted his sixth straight multi-hit game, going three-for-four with four RBI and three runs scored.

Senior Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell) was two-for-four with four knocked in, while Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River) and Ricky Capelli (Williamsburg, VA/Lafayette) each had two hits apiece.

Lynchburg will travel to Fayetteville, NC this Friday to take on Huntingdon College at 1 p.m. and Frostburg State University at 7 p.m.
