VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team dropped its second-straight game Saturday afternoon, falling to Virginia Wesleyan College 64-49 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action from The Batten Center.
Lynchburg trailed most of the contest, and struggled to score as the Hornets tallied only 20 points in the first half. LC took a 17-point deficit into halftime, but cut the lead to single digits with 12:41 left on a layup by Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance). VWC subsequently went on a 10-2 run over the next 3:10 of the second half to put the game away.
The Hornets (8-14/6-11 ODAC) were led by Lucas, who posted a team-high 16 points to go with a game-high 14 rebounds. Junior guard Chevonne Booker (Richmond, VA/Thomas Jefferson) posted nine points, while fellow junior Kristina Darby (Tampa, FL/Holy Names) chalked up totals of nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds.
Lynchburg shot 30 percent (18-60) for the game, but turnovers doomed LC as the Hornets committed a season-high 30 on the afternoon. Lynchburg did win the rebounding margin, pulling in 49 to VWC's 44.
The hosting Marlins (16-7/13-5 ODAC) were paced by Jill Weston and Maggie Smith, both of whom posted game-highs of 17 points. Andrea Ushinski had a solid game with eight points, six boards and four steals, while Kristina Jameson had seven points. VWC shot only 34 percent from the field, but committed 18 turnovers and hit seven three pointers.
