2001 Memories:

From Chris Johnson 2004 Grad

Spring Break – Our midweek game was cancelled and we were coming off a bad loss to St. Mary's to open the season. This sequence of events led to us to have two-a-days in the illustrious Wake Field House for week solid. We were the only 30 or so people on campus that week, and we sustained on a diet of Fazzoli's spaghetti (don't even think about asking for lasagna) and Domino's pizza. Coach Johnson had come across a secret stash of "dead balls" that he swore would improve our indoor practices. These balls were heavier then a normal lacrosse ball and were a shade of grayish brown that exactly matched the walls of Wake. Since there were three freshmen goalies on the team, who all needed a lot of work at that early point in the season there was no lack of shooting drills during those two-a-days. The combination of daily Fazzoli's, shooting intensive two-a-day practices using heavy balls that were camouflaged against the walls of the field house and constant phone calls from friends in the Florida Keys and Cancun led to a lot of contemplating my place in life during Spring Break 2001.
