Kelly Gerland Takes Home Reserve Overall High Point Rider

Equestrian TeamSWEET BRIAR and LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College equestrian team won their first show in recent memory Sunday at Sweet Briar, defeating defending ODAC Champion Hollins, 2007 ODAC Champion Bridgewater, 2005 Champion Randolph College, Washington & Lee, and Sweet Briar.

Kelly Gerland (Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was named the overall high point leader after finishing as the second ranked participant in the show. Caitlin Flathers (Rixeyville, VA/Homeschool) finished in first place in intermediate flat and Gerland won first place in novice flat. The 2008 ODAC Rookie of the Year, Charlotte Harris (Middleburg, VA/Madeira), was second in open flat, Gerland finished second in intermediate fences, and Jamie Carille (Virginia Beach, VA/Frank W. Cox) garnered second in novice flat. Sarah Ridgeway earned second place honors in walk/trot/canter while Mallory Williams was third in walk/trot.

On Friday, the team co-hosted its first IHSA show of the season with Randolph College at the Randolph College Stables. Flathers had another good showing, finishing first in intermediate flat and third in novice open fences while Gerland took home a third place finish in novice flat.
