Game One Box Score vs. Greensboro

GREENSBORO, NC - The No. 14 Lynchburg College baseball team opened its 2009 campaign with a doubleheader split at Greensboro College Saturday, as the Hornets took game one 11-6, before falling in the nightcap 7-6.

In the opener, LC jumped out to a three-run lead in the top of the first, but two two-run innings by the Pride (1-1) gave them a 4-3 lead after three frames. LC exploded for five in the fourth inning, and led the rest of the way.

The Hornets (1-1) were led in game one by senior second baseman Kyle Bradley (Brookneal, VA/William Campbell), who finished 3-4 with three runs batted in. David Gaines, Jr. (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) was 3-3 with two runs scored, while Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) and Chris Colquhoun (Virginia Beach, VA/Salem) each posted two hits, two runs and a RBI. Junior Conner Thompson (Solomons, MD/ Reservoirs) got the win for LC, going three innings of relief, allowing three hits and one run.

In the second game of the evening, LC led 2-0 going into bottom of the third, but allowed the Pride to score six in that frame. The Hornets responded in the top of the fifth with four runs, highlighted by a two-run single from Matt Painter (Danville, VA/Dan River), but GC came right back with the winning run in the bottom half.

Gaines, Jr. was 3-4 in game two, scoring and driving in one while stealing two bags. Colquhoun was 2-4 with two driven in and Jeff Taylor (Lynchburg, VA/Heritage) had a pair of hits and stolen base.

Tyler O'Neill was 3-4 in the opener for the Pride, while Jacob Tomb had a pair of hits in both contests.

Lynchburg will travel to Danville, VA on Tuesday afternoon for a non-conference tussle with Averett University at 2 p.m.
