Memories: The 1993 season started off with an extremely disappointing loss to an upstart Limestone program. Without a doubt the team overlooked them and really saw this as no more than a scrimmage or final tune up for the real upcoming season. Unfortunately this was a real game and the loss really brought us together as a group and we became extremely focused on turning our potential into reality on the field. Our next opponent was Ithaca College who was ranked #2 in the country at the time. They were loaded with returning starters from a team that made the DIII final 4 the previous year. The week of practice leading up to the game was inspired, the entire team was embarrassed by the loss to Limestone and determined to let the Lacrosse world know that Lynchburg College was for real. The first half of the Ithaca game was pure chaos, our mantra the entire week was “Keep Moving, never stand still.” Ithaca was flat out stunned and simply couldn’t handle our energy and emotion that game. The final score was I believe LC 12 Ithaca 9….but I could be mistaken. Ithaca staged a furious rally in the fourth quarter but we had put the game too far out of reach for them to ever get too close. As the final seconds ticked away our fellow students rushed the field and piled on top of the team, at the time it was the biggest victory in LC Lacrosse history. 1993 ended up being a solid year and we built off the Ithaca victory, following that game we were ranked Nationally in the top 20 for the entire year.
