Lynchburg Women Drop Road Contest at Roanoke 80-55

SALEM, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team dropped its fourth-straight contest Tuesday night as the Hornets fell to Roanoke College 80-55 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from the C. Homer Bast Center Tuesday night.

The host Maroons came out of the gates on fire, as Roanoke (17-2/13-2 ODAC) hit its first seven shots from the field, taking an early 16-4 in the first five minutes. LC (7-12/5-9 ODAC) battled back to within six with 5:48 left on a Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) trifecta, but a 11-2 run by the Maroons made the score 39-24 at the half. Roanoke shot 64 percent (16-25) from the field in the first half.

After intermission, RC pulled away with a 16-7 run to open the second period. The Hornets were paced offensively by Brewer, who finished with 11 points connecting on three shots from downtown.

LC's Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) added 10 points and a team-high five rebounds, while freshmen Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock), Allyson Cannella (Wallkill, NY/Wallkill) and junior Loriann Garcia (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) each chipped in with seven points apiece.

Roanoke was paced on the stat sheet by Erin Jenkins and her 15 points, as she hit on three of seven from downtown. Jordan Gholson added 16 points for RC, while Caitlin Long pitched in with 14 points.

Jalessa Osborne also finished with 13 points for the Maroons, who shot 48 percent (30-62) from the field, and outrebounded LC 41-26. Roanoke also won the turnover battle, committing just 13 compared to the Hornet's 18 giveaways.

Lynchburg will entertain Washington & Lee University Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Turner Gym.
