Lynchburg Men Track Squad Competes at East Tennessee State and GMU
JOHNSON CITY, TN and FAIRFAX, VA - The Lynchburg College men's track and field team finished competition at the Niswonger Invitational Saturday, which was held on the campus of East Tennessee State University. Also, another squad went to the Patriot Games held on the campus of George Mason University.
The prestigious meets bring top teams from all three NCAA Divisions, including teams from Division I's Southeastern Conference, Colonial Athletic Association and Big South Conference.
In the 5000 meter run, sophomore Ryan Van Alstine (Midland Park, NJ/Midland Park) finished 15th overall with a time of 15:23, while teammate Lawrence Minor (Mineral, VA/Louisa) clocked a 16:25 for 34th place. Todd Apgar (Somers, NY/Somers) was LC's top finisher in the mile run, placing 17th in 4:31.17.
In the 3,000 meter invitational run, junior Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, MD/Damascus) finished third in 8:31.20, besting multiple Division-I runners in the process.
Senior Kyle Edwards (Tolland, CT/Loomis) finished third at the Patriot Games weight throw, booking a toss of 14.93. Dan Reid (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenholm) hurled the weight 14.16 meters, while John Michael Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) logged a 13.70 meter throw. Pavia also finished third in the shot put event, putting a 13.71 meter toss in the books.
Thomas Clark finished fourth in the pole vault, clearing a height of 4.40 meters. James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) also clocked a 8.83 in the 60 meter hurdles.
The Hornets are back in action next weekend when they travel to both the VMI Relays in Lexington, VA and the Susquehanna University Invitational in Selinsgrove, PA.
