Lynchburg Falls at Emory & Henry 66-56

EMORY, VA - The Lynchburg College women's basketball team dropped an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tussle with Emory & Henry College Friday night from the King Center.

The first half was back and forth, as the Hornets (7-11/5-8 ODAC) and Wasps exchanged leads three times, and were tied on eight occasions over the first 20 minutes. Lynchburg grabbed the advantage with just less than ten minutes to go in the half, and led at the break 33-24.

Junior post Kylie Lucas (Fort Defiance, VA/Verona) and freshman Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) provided much of LC's offense with 12 and 10 points, respectively. Lynchburg out-rebounded the Wasps 23-13 in the first half, including grabbing 11 offensive caroms to E&H's two.

After intermission, Lynchburg built an 11-point lead midway into the second stanza, but the Wasps (4-12/3-9) charged back. Emory & Henry regained the lead with 8:17 left in the contest, on a runner from junior guard Sarah Petty. After two LC free throws, Petty answered with two of her own and the Wasps would lead the rest of the way.

LC was led by Lucas, who finished with 10 points on 7-19 shooting from the field. Greenlief ended with 12 points, while sophomore Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) had nine points, eight rebounds and three steals. LC shot 38 percent for the contest, but turned the ball over 28 times, 19 in the second half.

E&H got a game-high 23 points from Petty, who nailed nine of 16 from the floor, also booking six steals. Alex Lyons scored 16 points and junior Baylie Snyder added 10 points in the winning cause. Emory & Henry shot 51 percent (26-51) from the field and connected on nine of ten from the line.

The Hornets get the rest of the weekend off before traveling to Salem, VA Tuesday for a conference battle with the Maroons of Roanoke College at 7 p.m.
