Hampden-Sydney Holds On for a 72-63 Win Over LC Men's Basketball Team

HAMPDEN-SYDNEY, VA - The Hampden-Sydney College men's basketball team held off a surging Lynchburg College squad for a 72-63 win in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Wednesday night from Hampden-Sydney, VA.

The Hornets went into half-time down 30-20, but the Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) show took over in the second-half with 20 points after intermission. LC cut the deficit to just four, 32-28, with 15:03 remaining, but the Tigers pushed it back to 10, 38-28, with 13:42 left. LC answered back to cut it to just three with a little over 10 minutes left in regulation.HSC pushed the lead back to double digits with less than eight minutes to go but LC would stay in the game to the end and was down just five points with 33 seconds left, but HSC sealed the game at the free throw line.

Echols posted team-highs of 22 points, six rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) added on 17 points and five rebounds. Turner King led Hampden-Sydney (9-8/4-4 ODAC) with 25 points and seven boards while Lane Medlin posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 caroms.

Lynchburg College (3-13/1-6 ODAC) will hit the hardwood next on Saturday, November 24, at 3 p.m. as they face ODAC for Emory & Henry College in Turner Gymnasium.
