Internships afford students the opportunity to:
- gain practical knowledge and skills related to their academic discipline,
- obtain professional experience,
- network with professionals in their area of interest,
- clarify career goals and interests,
- build their resumes,
- and earn credit towards their major and/or graduation requirements.
Students may undertake an internship during the academic year or summer. Internships may take place in Lynchburg, a student's hometown, locations such as Washington, D.C. and the Walt Disney Resorts in Florida, and overseas locales. Recent Lynchburg College student internship experiences have included:
- Josh Parman '09 (Communication Studies) - Northrup Grumman, Charlottesville, VA (see photo)
- Elizabeth Jackson '09 (Biology) - Elephant keeper intern at the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore, Maryland
- Kristina Darby '10 (Exercise Physiology) - Orthopedic surgery intern at the Florida Orthopedic Institute in Tampa, Florida
- Ashley Payne '10 (English) - Lynchburg Obama Campaign
- Rachel Safren '09 (International Relations) - FBB Federal Relations, Washington, DC, through the Washington Center Internship Program
- Jessica Lloyd '09 (Communication Studies) - EuroNews, London, England, through the Washington Center Internship Program (see photo)
Internships at Lynchburg College are credit-bearing experiences. Students must be of junior status to receive credit for an internship, which also requires both faculty and on-site supervisors.
