Hornet Women Fall to Washington & Lee 94-77 Friday Night
LEXINGTON, VA - Freshman guard Rebecca Bolton scored a game and career high 29 points in leading Washington & Lee University to a 94-77 win over the Lynchburg College women's basketball team Friday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from the Warner Center.
The first half was back and forth, as the Generals and Hornets exchanged leads eight times. Washington & Lee (3-6/3-2 ODAC) captured the lead going into intermission thanks to a 10-2 run late in the stanza, highlighted by five points each from Meghan Ingram and Rebecca Bolton.
Junior Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) paced the Hornets in the first half with 11 points, while freshman Annie Terry (Appomattox, VA/Appomattox) had seven. W&L was sparked by 15 first-half points from Bolton, as the Generals led 41-35 at the break.
After the intermission, LC (5-7/3-4 ODAC) cut the margin to two early on in the second half, but a subsequent 11-2 run by the Generals put the game out of reach for LC. W&L shot a blistering 61.3 percent in the second half, hitting on 19 of 31 shots.
LC was paced on the scoring sheet was Dahn, who finished with a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds. Junior guard Dana Esposito (New Port Richey, FL/Holy Names) posted double figures with 12 points, while freshman Katie Crump (Burke, VA/Lake Braddock) also chipped in with nine points off the bench for the Hornets. LC shot 43.5 percent (27-62) for the contest, but turned the ball over 26 times.
Bolton finished the game 10-25 from the floor, hitting on nine of her ten free-throw attempts. Bolton also grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds for W&L, while teammates Bethany Ridenhour and Felice Herman had 15 and 14 points, respectively. W&L finished the game 34-68 (50 percent) from the floor, knocking down 22 of its 24 attempts from the charity stripe.
Lynchburg is back in action Tuesday evening as the Bridgewater College Eagles come to Turner Gymnasium for a conference game at 7 p.m.
