VWC Rallies for 65-52 win over LC in Women's Play

Box Score

LYNCHBURG, VA - The Virginia Wesleyan College women's basketball team turned a four-point halftime deficit into a 65-52 win Sunday afternoon at Lynchburg College in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The Hornets led 29-25 at intermission on the strength of 14 of 20 shooting from the free-throw line. LC scored the first four points of the second half, and still led 37-31 with 16 minutes left on the game clock.  A 9-0 Marlin run put the visitors up for good, and a later 11-2 surge put the game out of reach. The Marlin defense forced 29 turnovers, and limited LC to just 29 percent shooting in the second half (8-28).

Sophomore forward Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) paced Lynchburg with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals, hitting 11 of her 14 tries from the charity stripe. Junior Brittany Dahn (Richmond, VA/Deep Run) just missed a ‘double double' with nine points and nine boards, and freshman Carly Greenlief (Centreville, VA/Westfield) tallied eight points and eight caroms.

Tonia Jones posted 19 points for VWC (7-2/4-0 ODAC), 13 in the second half.  Maggie Smith posted 14 points and eight rebounds and Kristina Jameson shrugged off a poor shooting first half to finish with 11 points and four assists.

The Hornets (4-6/2-3 ODAC) host Roanoke College Tuesday night at 7 p.m. in another ODAC game.
