Huntingdon College Prevails 73-62 Over LC Men's Basketball in Tampa Bay Shootout

 TAMPA BAY, FL - Huntingdon College prevailed over the Lynchburg College men's basketball team 73-62 on Monday night in the Tampa Bay Shootout hosted by DePauw University.

 LC held a slim 37-35 lead at the break, but Huntingdon College came out of the locker room at the half firing on all cylinders, going on a 24-9 run over the first ten minutes to secure a 13 point advantage to take control of the game. The lead swelled to as much as 18, but the Hornets fought back, cutting the lead to just six with 1:36 remaining in the contest. Huntingdon finished off the Hornets by scoring the last five points of the contest to secure the win.

 Lynchburg received 18 points and five rebounds from Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) in 21 minutes of action before fouling out. KC Mendez (San Antonio, TX/Winston Churchill) added 12 points and nine rebounds, Steven Echols (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) posted eight assists and seven caroms, and Danny Reed (Adamstown, MD/Tuscarora) tacked on nine points and seven boards.

Deshaun Williams paced HC (4-5) with 19 points and six rebounds while Jeremy Pittman tallied 18 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Reggie Sprouse and D'Awvalo Turnipseed contributed with 11 and 10 points respectively.

 LC shot 21-54 overall, 3-22 from three point land, and 17-31 from the free throw line while HC was 22-49 overall, 6-18 from deep, and 23-41 from the charity stripe. LC maintained a 41-35 advantage on the boards, behind a 15-8 advantage on the offensive glass. The Hornets committed 18 turnovers while Huntingdon totalled 16 turnovers.

 Lynchburg (1-8) will play Drew University Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game of the Tampa Bay Shootout.
