In Spring, 1999, Lynchburg College was pleased to announce the establishment of the first endowed professorship in the School of Education and Human Development. The professorship honors the donor, Elizabeth M. Forsyth, a lifelong Lynchburg resident and active community-builder. Ms. Forsyth has provided generous support for other programs in the City of Lynchburg including Miriam's House (a transitional program for homeless women and their children) and the Elizabeth's Early Learning Center (a state-of-the-art childcare center with a comprehensive and appropriately child-driven program and a culturally diverse enrollment). Ms. Forysth's contributions to Lynchburg have been far-reaching and have had dramatic affect on human services within the area.

The professorship provides release time for a faculty member to provide consultative support for Elizabeth’s Early Learning Center (EELC). The responsibility of the faculty member also includes the supervision of Lynchburg College practicum students at EELC.  The professorship will also support a graduate assistantship for EELC-related projects, and an operating budget to support the work at the Center.

Dr. Glenn Buck, Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Lynchburg College, is the initial recipient of the Elizabeth M. Forsyth Professorship. Upon receiving his Ed.D. in Special Education in 1993 from the University of Florida, Dr. Buck began teaching in the LC special education program and has worked extensively at EELC. He currently serves as the President on the Board of Directors at EELC.
