Lynchburg Women Run By Vikings of Augustana College 71-63

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, TX - Junior forward Brittany Dahn (Glen Allen, VA/Deep Run) scored a game-high 18 points as the Lynchburg College women's basketball team knocked off Augustana College 71-63 in the final day of the South Padre Island Shootout from the South Padre Island Convention Center Sunday.
The first half was a lot of back and forth, as the teams exchanged the lead nine times in the stanza. Lynchburg finished the half on a 6-0 run, and led at the intermission 40-35. Dahn had eight points to lead LC (4-5) in the first period, while Kylie Lucas (Verona, VA/Fort Defiance) and Chevonne Booker (Richmond, VA/Thomas Jefferson) each added seven points.
Lynchburg would lead the entire second half, bulging the lead up to 10 with 10:09 left after a Dahn lay-up. Augustana trimmed into the advantage, and with 1:19 left, a Lani Kasten jumper closed the Lynchburg lead to three. Junior Loriann Garcia (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley) sealed the deal with a lay-up to put the Hornets up five, and free throws down the stretch pushed the final edge out to eight.
Dahn finished 6-12 from the floor, knocking down six of her eight attempts from the charity stripe, also grabbing a team-high seven rebounds. Lucas ended the game with 12 points and five boards, while Dana Esposito (New Port Richey, FL/Holy Names) posted 10 points in earning All-Tournament Team honors. LC shot 23-61 (37.7 percent) from the floor, but knocked down 22-27 (81.5 percent) from the free throw line.
Kasten paced the Vikings (2-8), as she poured in 16 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Kristen Fox had 12 points and six assists, while Natalie Runge posted 14 points and five rebounds. AC shot 42.9 percent (21-49 from the floor, but only hit on 16 of 30 shots from the line. Lynchburg only turned over the ball 10 times, compared to 23 Viking miscues.
Lynchburg is off until after the New Year, when it will entertain the Marlins of Virginia Wesleyan College January 4 at 3 p.m.
