Lynchburg Men Fall to Ferrum College 72-42 Thursday Evening
FERRUM, VA - The Lynchburg College men's basketball team traveled to Ferrum College for a non-conference contest but fell 72-42 on Thursday evening.
Ferrum College jumped out to an 18-12 lead with 12:46 remaining in the first half, but LC went on a 7-0 run to take a 19-18 lead with 11:08 to go in the half. Ferrum answered back with a 10-0 run to take a nine point lead with six minutes to go in the first stanza, but LC would battle back, cutting the lead to four with two minutes remaining. Ferrum closed out the half with two back-to-back Marcus Mayo three-pointers to take a 38-28 lead into the half. Mason Wooldridge (New Canton, VA/Fork Union) led Lynchburg with 14 points and five rebounds in the first half while the panthers were paced by Keith Crump and Marcus Mayo who had 10 points apiece.
The second-half was plagued by a plethora of illegal screen calls, but Ferrum started the stanza on a 17-4 run, highlighted by a four-point play to give the Panthers a commanding 55-32 lead with 12:11 remaining in the half. Ferrum would go on to outscore the Hornets 34-14 to close out the game.
Wooldridge finished the game with 15 points and 11 rebounds in 26 minutes of court time, shooting 8-10 from the free throw line. Keith Crump led a trio of double-digit scorers for Ferrum, finishing with 18 points in 24 minutes. Derek Mitchell posted 15 points, seven boards, and three blocks while Marcus Mayo had 12 points and six caroms.
Ferrum (6-3) shot 50.8% (31-61) from the field but made just seven of 16 attempts from the free throw line. LC shot 22.2% (12-54) from the field and 13-24 from the charity stripe. The Panthers outrebounded the Hornets 45-35 and LC committed 17 turnovers compared to 16 for Ferrum.
The Hornets now turn their attention to a non-conference road game with the Captains of Christopher Newport Saturday afternoon at 7:30 p.m.
