Lynchburg Sweeps All-State College Division Field Hockey Awards
LYNCHBURG, VA - Lynchburg College swept all three major awards on the 2008 All-State College Division Field Hockey Team, as voted on by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID). Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) was named the state player of the year, midfielder Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) earned Rookie of the Year honors while Enza Steele took home Coach of the Year accolades.
Weir earned third-team National Field Hockey Coaches All-American honors this fall after scoring 35 goals, including seven game-winners. She was named the co-Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Player of the Year and was also an All-Region first team selection.
Morris, the ODAC Rookie of the Year, played in all 24 Hornet games with 23 starts. She was an honorable mention to the all-conference team. Steele's Lynchburg squad went 18-6 overall, won the ODAC title and advanced into the NCAA Division III Tournament's Sweet 16. She was voted the ODAC Coach of the year and her team has captured three-straight conference crowns.
Christopher Newport University dotted the first-team with four student-athletes, while Eastern Mennonite University, Lynchburg and Washington & Lee University each had two players on the first team. Randolph-Macon College garnered one first-teamer and the University of Mary Washington populated the second-team with four Eagles.
