Roanoke Heads Women's Indoor Track Poll
Washington & Lee Picked to Finish Second
December 10, 2008

SALEM, Va. --- Roanoke College was chosen unanimously for the second straight season as the top seed in the 2008-09 ODAC Women's Indoor Track Preseason Poll.  The Maroons received all six of the coaches' first place votes totaling for 36 overall points.  Washington and Lee University was a close second seed tallying 30 total points.

Roanoke won the 2007-08 indoor title by 79.5 points over Washington and Lee last year to claim its third straight indoor crown.  Junior Robin Yerkes heads the list of returnees to the track.  Yerkes, last  year's ODAC Athlete of the Meet at the 2007-08 indoor championships, earned her second All-American award after placing fourth in the 400-meter dash (56.53) at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track Championships.  She won that event at the ODAC meet (58.20) while also winning the 55-meter (7.22) and 200-meter dashes (25.31).

Washington and Lee finished second in last year's championship meet, marking the third consecutive year as the runner-up to the Maroons. Seniors Elizabeth Webb and Jessica Shaw highlight the list of returnees for the Generals.  Webb won both the mile run (5:11.61) and the 800-meter run (2:21.54) at last year's ODAC championship meet.  Shaw claimed victory in the 5000-meter run (17:45.85).
