Hornet Men's Indoor Track Competes at West Virginia University
LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College indoor men's track and field team started its 2008-09 season Saturday, competing at the West Virginia University Invitational in Morgantown, WV.
Freshman James Bell (Huddleston, VA/Staunton River) had a very nice opening meet as a collegiate, as he won both the pole vault event at 14.6 feet and the high jump at 6.4 feet. Newcomer Tommy Clark (Alexandria, VA/T.C. Williams) cleared 14 feet on the pole vault, while Casey Rudd (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake) topped 13 feet in the same event.
In the lanes for LC, Chris Word (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) finished second overall in the 400 meters with a time of 51.09. Earl Graves (Richmond, VA/Hermitage) was fourth in the 400 meters with a time of 51.65, while Kevonte Warner (Scottsville, VA/Buckingham Co.) clocked an 8.86 in the 55 meter hurdles.
Sophomore John Pavia (Forest, VA/Jefferson Forest) tossed the shot-put 43.4 feet, and teammate Dan Reid (Hamilton, MA/Hamilton-Wenhom) recorded a heave of 43.3 feet in the shot event. Senior Kyle Edwards (Tolland, CT/Loomis Chaffee) finished second in the weight throw, tossing it 45.6 feet.
LC is off for a month, but the vaulters return to the pit January 2-3 for the Pole Vault Summit in Reno, NV. The track team travels to the Hokie Invitational in Blacksburg, VA Saturday, January 17.
