Spalding Defeats Men's Basketball 57-35

CINCINNATI, OH - Spalding University defeated the Lynchburg College men's basketball team 57-35 in the consolation game of the Mount St. Joseph's Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Hornets were down just 23-22 at the half and would take the lead at 26-25 with 18:06 remaining, but Spalding held the Hornets without a field goal until the 7:47 mark in which they built up an insurmountable 40-29 lead. LC was led by Jeff Langrock's (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) 10 points and five rebounds and Steven Echols' (Martinsville, VA/Carlisle) ten points, who was also named to the All-Tournament team.

DeWhon McAfee poured in 25 points along with four assists for Spalding (2-2) and four steals while Shannon Jones added seven points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks. The rims were unkind to LC as they shot 15-50 (30%) from the field and SU converted on 21 of 39 attempts (54%). SU held a significant advantage at the free throw line, connecting on 14 of 23 attempts and LC was just 5-11 from the charity stripe. The Hornets failed to make all of their 18 three point attempts, was outrebounded 40-22, and won the turnover battle 19-25.

The Hornets (0-2) will host cross-town and Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Randolph College on Tuesday at 5 p.m. as part of a double header with the women's basketball team.
