Emory Defeats St. Mary's 3-0 in NCAA First Round
LYNCHBURG, VA - Senior Alexa Wahr scored twice to lead Emory University to a 3-0 win over St. Mary's College (MD) Saturday afternoon in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Tournament, hosted by Lynchburg College. The Eagles face Lynchburg Sunday at 2 p.m. for the right to advance into the tournament's Sweet 16.
Junior Talia Dweck opened the scoring 4:17 into the game, and Wahr netted her first goal on a penalty kick two minutes later to give EU a quick two-goal edge. The Eagles held onto the lead Wahr tacked on a tally with 26 seconds left on the game clock.
Martie Oben made five saves for St. Mary's, which ends its season with a 12-3-3 record. Emory (16-3-1) outshot the Seahawks 19-2 and held an 8-2 edge in corner kicks.
