Nancy Schneider, professor of accounting at Lynchburg College, has been named a "Super CPA" in the November 2008 issue of Virginia Business magazine.
Thousands of certified public accountants (CPAs) work in Virginia, but this year's "Super CPA" contest in Virginia Business magazine identifies 320 "best of the best" of the CPA profession.
The Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) and Lynchburg College are pleased to announce VSCPA member Schneider was selected as a winner in the Educator category of the contest.
Virginia Business partnered with the VSCPA to develop this special program, now in its seventh year, to highlight Virginia's top certified public accountants for their important contributions to the CPA profession and the prosperity of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia Business sent a ballot to more than 7,000 Virginia CPAs asking them to identify the names of peers they considered to be the best at their craft. After the ballots were counted, the winners were selected in 12 categories and were highlighted in a special "Super CPAs" report in the November issue.
Schneider has taught accounting at Lynchburg College since 1990 and has been named a "Super CPA" in a previous year also. She has received teaching awards both in the School of Business and Economics and at the College level.
In 2008 and 2002, she received the Sydnor Professorship Award for Teaching Excellence in Business. In 2005, she received the Shirley E. Rosser Award for Excellence in Teaching, the highest recognition of effective teaching offered by LC.
Schneider received her B.S. in math education with high honors from the University of Florida and her master of professional accountancy from Georgia State University. Schneider maintains a current CPA license.
The author of numerous articles and manuals, Schneider is particularly interested in teaching pedagogy and how students learn. She employs a variety of teaching methods in her classes, including various active learning techniques, to enhance student achievement.
