Washington and Lee Defeats LC in Three Sets to Claim the Volleyball ODAC Championship

ROANOKE, VA - The #7 seed Lynchburg College Hornets Cinderella run through the ODAC Tournament came to an end as Washington & Lee University emerged from Hollins University Saturday afternoon with the title in a 3-0 victory.

LC gave W&L a tough battle in the first set and was down just 15-13, but the Generals reeled off 10 of the next 16 points to win the first set 25-19. The second set proved to be a set of big runs for each team. WLU took a commanding 19-8 lead, but LC won the next six points to cut the lead to 19-14. The Generals won six of the ten eight points to win the second set 25-18.

The third set proved to be a suspenseful one. LC tied the score at 7-7, then W&L went on a 8-2 run to take a 15-9 lead. The feisty Hornets showed no quit and cut the lead to just one at 18-17 to force the Generals to call a timeout. The Generals came out of the timeout to go up 20-17, but LC answered back with five straight points to take a 22-20 lead to force another Generals timeout. W&L would then close out the contest by winning five of the last six points to win the match.

Elena Kritter (Culpeper, VA/Rappahannock) posted 14 kills for Lynchburg and Chelsea Jones (Richmond, VA/Monocan) added on 10 kills. Kristina Giordano (Huntington Station, NY/Walt Whitman) contributed with 34 assists and Savannah Tinsley (Lynchburg, VA/EC Glass) tacked on 21 digs. Kritter, Jones, and Tinsley were also named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Hornets conclude their season with a 16-16 record while Washington & Lee goes to 30-6 on the season and advanced to the NCAA Tournament via automatic bid due to winning the conference championship
