Lynchburg Prepares For Triple Header ODAC Semifinal Action Wednesday
LYNCHBURG, VA - Three Lynchburg College fall athletic teams will be prepping for Old Dominion Athletic Conferece (ODAC) Tournament semifinal action on Wednesday from Shellenberger Field after emerging victorious in the quarterfinals at home on Saturday.
The second seeded women's soccer team, currently ranked third in the nation, hosts third seeded Washington & Lee University at 1 p.m. The Hornets boast a 17-0-3 overall record and come in to Wednesday's action with a school record-tying 20-game unbeaten streak after defeating seven seed Randolph-Macon College 7-0 Saturday. Lynchburg and Washington & Lee boast potent offenses, with both teams ranking in the top two in the ODAC in points, goals, and assists. The Generals and Hornets also have a stingy defense, each ranking in the top three in goals against average. The winner will advance to play the winner of the #4 Virginia Wesleyan University vs. #1 Roanoke College match.
The men's soccer team, seeded second in the ODAC, hosts #3 seed Virginia Wesleyan College at 4 p.m. LC comes into the match with a 13-2-3 overall record and riding a 12-game unbeaten streak after defeating cross-town rival Randolph College 1-0 in overtime. Lynchburg will bring the highest scoring offense in the ODAC to the field, checking in at first in the conference in points, goals, and assists and also have a sturdy defense, ranking second in the ODAC in goals against average. The team that prevails will continue on to the ODAC Championship game to play the winner between #4 Hampden-Sydney College and #1 Roanoke College.
The field hockey team is seeded second in the tournament and host sixth seeded Bridgewater College, who upended the third seed Randolph-Macon College, in the nightcap at 7 p.m. The Hornets are currently on a seven-game win streak and have won 12 of their last 13 contests after prevailing over Roanoke College 7-1 in the quarterfinals. The field hockey team continues the theme of a strong offense and defense as they rank first in the ODAC assists per game and second in scoring average, goals scored per game, and goals against average. The victor will march on the ODAC Championship game to battle the winner of the #4 Washington & Lee University vs. #1 Eastern Mennonite University match.
