LC Women Runners Finish Third at the ODAC Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Lynchburg College women's cross country team competed at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) championships Saturday, finishing third out of nine teams in the 6K run, hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College.   

The Hornets just barely missed out on second place, finishing two points behind the Roanoke Maroons total of 58. Lynchburg was paced by Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) and her third place finish in a time of 22:12. Sophomore Jennie Pernisi (Camden, NY/APW) was fifth overall clocking a time of 22:42, while teammate Megan Donnelly (McLean, VA/McLean) ran the course in 23:29 for 13th place.

Sophomores Lindsay Fender (Fork Union, VA/Fluvanna) and Erin Grogan (Virginia Beach, VA/Ocean Lakes) were the other LC scorers, as they posted times of 23:55 and 24:18, respectively. Meyer and Pernisi earned first-team All-ODAC, while Donnelly was a second-team performer.

Washington & Lee University won the meet going away, as the Generals placed five runners in the top nine runners. Virginia Wesleyan finished fourth with a total of 98, followed by Bridgewater (163), Guilford (180), Randolph (209), Emory & Henry (229) and Eastern Mennonite. W&L's Jessica Shaw won the women's race, crossing the line in 21:41.

Lynchburg will run in the South/Southeast Regional Saturday, November 15 in San Antonio, TX.
