LC Field Hockey Defeats Roanoke 7-1 in ODAC Quarters

            LYNCHBURG, VA - Allie and Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) combined for nine points Saturday as second-seeded Lynchburg College advanced past #7 Roanoke College 7-1 in the quarterfinals of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) Championship Tournament.  LC will host six-seeded Bridgewater College on Wednesday at a time to be announced, after the Eagles upset #3 seed Randolph-Macon College.  

            Allie Weir opened the scoring 4:36 into the game on an assist from Cassie Westman (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's).  Westman scored herself from Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) at he 12:27 mark.  Jenny Weir assisted on the next three tallies, delivering helpers to Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville), Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) and her sister as the Hornets opened a commanding 5-0 edge early in the second half.  Tarah Rahner (Lincoln, PA/Bishop Shanahan) and Jenny Weir added unassisted insurance goals, and Kristin Santella got the Maroons on the board with a goal with under five minutes to play. Allie Weir finished with two goals, while Jenny Weir ended the day with a goal and three assists.

            The Hornets (15-5) outshot RC 33-10 and held a 15-8 edge in penalty corners. Cristina Scichilone made eight stops for Roanoke (3-14), and Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) made seven saves in the second half for LC.
