Hornet Field Hockey Blanks Virginia Wesleyan 3-0

LC Box Score vs. VWC

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team extended its winning streak to six with a 3-0 victory over the Virginia Wesleyan College Marlins Tuesday afternoon in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) finale for both teams.

The Hornets (14-5/6-1 ODAC) got on the board first thanks to an Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) goal, assisted by Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View). The goal was Weir's 31st of the season, which is tops in the conference.

Lynchburg led 1-0 going into the break, but padded its lead with two second-half tallies. The first goal after the break came from junior Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester), who's shot deflected off of a Marlin defender and into the net. Sophomore Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) ended the contest's scoring with an unassisted goal with three minutes to go.

The Hornets outshot the Marlins (3-12/2-5 ODAC) 32-4, taking 14 penalty corners to VWC's one. The Marlins' Chelsea Baker made 16 saves for the hosts, while Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) stopped two shots in earning her second shutout of the season.

Lynchburg finished tied for first in the conference, but will enter the league's post-season tournament as the No. 2 seed due to the tie-breaker with Eastern Mennonite. LC will take on No. 7 seed Roanoke College this Saturday afternoon at a time yet to be determined.
