Lynchburg College Men Rally for 3-1 Win at Randolph-Macon

LC Box Score vs. R-MC

ASHLAND, VA - The Lynchburg College men's soccer team rallied from a second-half deficit to defeat Randolph-Macon College 3-1 Tuesday in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.

The Hornets and Yellow Jackets played an even first stanza, as the Hornets racked up five shots to the hosts' four attempts. After intermission, Randolph-Macon got on the board first, as Kevan Quinn took a pass from Jon Fernandez and drilled it off the left post and in.

Lynchburg (13-2-3/7-0-3 ODAC) responded five minutes later, as Ryan Renfro (Forest, VA/Brookville) finished a nice passing play, with Michael Abbonizio (Maple Glen, PA/Hatboro Horsham, Sr.) and Pat Brown (Williamsburg, VA/Christchurch) earning the double-assist.

LC chalked up the eventual game-winner at the 61:09 mark of the contest, as Hunter Smith (Goode, VA/Jefferson Forest) corralled a deflection and scored on a bicycle kick to give LC the 2-1 lead. Freshman Jordan Clark (Richmond, VA/Monacan) gave LC some breathing room at the 74:23 mark of the game with an unassisted goal.

The game statistically was very even as the Hornets outshot R-MC 14-13, with each team being awarded three corner kicks. Junior Matt Sturdivant (Bear, DE/Caravel) made eight saves for LC, while Jason DePre stopped two LC shots on the afternoon.

The Hornets have now finished the regular season, and will enter the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) tournament as the No. 2 seed. The tournament will begin Saturday, with times and match-ups to be determined.
