Five Hornets Score as LC Field Hockey Knocks Off Roanoke 6-0

Cassie Westman scored on Senior Day Saturday for LC.LYNCHBURG, VA - The Lynchburg College field hockey team had five different goal scorers Saturday as it defeated the Maroons of Roanoke College 6-0 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play from Shellenberger Field.

Lynchburg (13-5/5-1 ODAC) junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) opened the scoring at 9:09 with help from Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun). Senior Cassie Westman (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne's) made the score 2-0 at the 11:14 point of the first half off of an assist from Weir.

Gibb tallied an unassisted goal at 31:10, and Weir finished the first-half scoring on a goal with help from Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester). After the break, senior Carter Maxey (Midlothian, VA/James River) scored at 43:01 of the match on a pass from Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River).

Sophomore Megan Cipolloni (Fort Washington, PA/Germantown) notched the final goal of the afternoon, finishing a Kristina Morris (Stafford, VA/Mountain View) pass at 56:32.

Junior keeper Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) and freshman Tiffany Frye (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) faced just one shot in getting the shutout, while Roanoke (3-12/2-5 ODAC) keepers Christina Scichilone and Lauren Dukes combined for 12 saves. LC outshot the Maroons 29-1, and earned 16 penalty corners to RC's one.

The Hornets finish their regular season slate Tuesday at 4 p.m. as they travel to Virginia Wesleyan College for a league match-up.
