Allie Weir Leads Hornets to 4-1 Win Over Randolph-Macon College
ASHLAND, VA – Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored all four goals Saturday for LC, also vaulting herself into the No. 2 spot on the Lynchburg College career goals list, as the LC field hockey team knocked off Randolph-Macon College 4-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play.
Weir, who passed current Hornet assistant Andrea Fleming ’06 (91) on the list, now stands with 93 career tallies. That total sits behind only Phebe Phelps’ 106 goals, a total that has stood as the LC record for scores since 1984. This was also Weir’s 12th hat trick of her career and fourth game with four goals.
Weir got her afternoon started early and often, as she notched three of her four tallies in the first 16:19 of the contest. Weir opened the scoring 9:39 into the match, as she took a feed from sister Jenny Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and found the back of the goal. A little over four minutes later, Weir netted a goal from Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) to make the score 2-0.
Freshman Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) fed Weir for her third goal of the game, and then Weir finished the LC tallying with a rebound put-back off a shot from Warrington at 27:14 to give LC a 4-0 lead. After the break, R-MC cut the lead to three on a Lindsay Walker goal, but could get no closer.
Junior Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) stopped two shots for Lynchburg, while her counterpart Ashley Crouch stopped 20 shots for the Yellow Jackets (6-8/4-1 ODAC). The Hornets outshot Randolph-Macon 34-9, earning 10 penalty corners to the host’s four.
Lynchburg (12-5/4-1 ODAC) takes on Roanoke College next Saturday for Senior Day on Shellenberger Field at 2 p.m.
