Allie Weir Scores Twice in 3-0 LC Field Hockey Win Over Sewanee

LC Box Score vs. Sewanee

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) scored two goals Thursday night as the Lynchburg College field hockey team knocked off Sewanee: The University of the South 3-0 in non-conference action from Shellenberger Field.

Erin Funkhouser scored the game-winning goal Thursday night.                LC (11-5) jumped out early on, as Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville) scored from freshman Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) at the 7:44 mark. Weir notched her first goal of the game at 23:08, deflecting a drive from Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) past Sewanee netminder Clarkie Crawford.

After the break, Weir put a bow on the evening’s scoring, tallying her 24th goal of the season with help from senior Cassie Westman (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s). Weir has now scored in her last nine outings, including posting multiple goals in four of those nine. Junior Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) got her first shutout of the season, stopping three shots, while Crawford ended with eight saves in the loss.

The Hornets outshot Sewanee 24-6, also holding a 11-7 advantage in penalty corners. The win marked LC’s third straight and eighth in its last nine times out.

The Hornets will travel to Ashland, VA Saturday at 2 p.m. for an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match with the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon College.
