Lynchburg Women Take Thriller Over Washington & Lee 2-1

LC Box Score vs. W&L

Ashley Hoath scored the game-winner Saturday night.                LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior midfielder Ashley Hoath (Alexandria, VA/Mount Vernon) scored the game-winner 61:33 into the contest as the No. 2 ranked Lynchburg College women’s soccer team defeated Washington & Lee University 2-1 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) play Saturday night.

Lynchburg jumped out on front early in the contest, as Joanie Snyder (Bel Air, MD/Bel Air) drilled a shot into the top part of the net off a nice cross from Lindsey Gengras (Avon, CT/Avon). Washington & Lee knotted the score at one 39:18 into the match, as Kat Barnes curled in the corner kick to earn her the equalizer.

Hoath got the game-winner in the second half, as she corralled an errant pass at the top of the box and fired towards W&L keeper Kiki Moreo. Moreo appeared to have the shot in her grasp, but the ball slipped through her hands and into the net. Hoath had earlier hit the right goalpost on a penalty kick, also clanging shots off the left goalpost and crossbar.

The Hornets (11-0-3/4-0-2 ODAC) outshot the Generals 25-10, earning 14 attempts in the second stanza to the visitors’ none. The Hornets did also receive four corners to W&L’s three, and the foul total was 9-7 in the direction of LC. Moreo finished with seven stops in net for the Generals, while Jackie Bader (Fort Washington, MD/Bishop Ireton) made three saves for the hosts.

Lynchburg will entertain the Wasps of Emory and Henry College Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. in another conference match on Shellenberger Field.
