Hornet Women and Roanoke Play to 1-1 Tie

SALEM, VA – The second-ranked Lynchburg College women’s soccer team played to a 1-1 double overtime tie at Roanoke College Wednesday evening in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) contest.

After a scoreless first-half, freshman forward Katie Santos (Cheltenham, MD/Bishop Ireton) scored at 56:10 to give Lynchburg a 1-0 cushion. The Hornets clung to the one-goal lead until under 10 minutes remained in regulation, as Meredith Grunewald tied the score on an assist by Laura Kellam at 82:13. In the closing three minutes on the game clock, Maroon keeper Lindsay Kooiman made three saves to send the contest into overtime.

The Hornets out-shot Roanoke 20-4 and held a 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Kooiman made 10 stops in net for RC (5-5-2/3-2-1 ODAC).

Lynchburg (10-0-3/3-0-2) hosts Washington & Lee University Saturday at 7 p.m. as a part of the Homecoming Festivities.
