Three Lynchburg Athletes Awarded ODAC Weekly Honors Monday

SALEM, VA – The Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) announced its weekly player of the week awards Monday, with three Hornets garnering accolades for the last seven days of action.

Junior men’s cross country runner Ricky Flynn (Gaithersburg, VA/Damascus) took home his fifth career ODAC Runner of the Week award, after finishing third at the Pre-NCAA South/Southeast region meet held Saturday in San Antonio, TX. Flynn finished third out of 99 runners in the meet with a time of 25:50, helping the Hornets to a third place finish and top spot among D-III schools.

The women’s cross country team got its first honoree of the season, as Ashley Meyer (Springfield, MO/Glendale) was selected as the top performer. Meyer paced the Hornets with a time of 23:22 on the 6K course at the Paul Short Invitational, which was a personal-best and also the second-best time ever at LC. Her time was the fifth-best in the ODAC this season and best among Hornet runners this fall.

Lynchburg field hockey attack Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) found herself in a familiar position Monday, as she was honored by the ODAC for the fourth time in her career. Weir scored seven goals in three games last week, posting four against Shenandoah and a pair of scores against Frostburg State. Weir now has 11 career hat-tricks, five four-goal games, and at least one goal in 44 of her 57 games at LC, which is 77 percent of the Hornet contests since she has been on the team.

With these three honorees, LC now has been awarded with the ODAC Player/Runner of the Week award eight times throughout the fall. The LC cross country teams are off this week, while the Lynchburg field hockey team travels to Newport News, VA Wednesday for a non-conference game with Christopher Newport University at 4:30 p.m.
