Lynchburg Field Hockey Tames Frostburg State 5-2

LC Box Score vs. Frostburg St.

LYNCHBURG, VA – Junior Allie Weir (Richmond, VA/James River) and sophomore Caitlin Gibb (North East, MD/Rising Sun) each scored a pair of goals Saturday afternoon as the Lynchburg College field hockey team won its fifth straight contest with a 5-2 victory over the Bobcats of Frostburg State University in non-conference play.

Weir opened the scoring 3:52 into the game, getting an assist from junior midfielder Erin Funkhouser (Natural Bridge, VA/Menchville). Freshman Jordan Warrington (Ocean View, DE/Indian River) notched her second career tally 9:38 into the game, followed ten minutes later by another Weir score.

Gibb booked her first goal of the day at the 31:53 mark, posting her fourth tally of the year. The Bobcats (8-3) got on the board just before halftime, as Brooke Tapman fed Breanne Russell for the goal

After halftime, FSU cut the Hornet lead to two as Sami Topolski finished a pass from Michelle Frost off a penalty corner. Lynchburg (8-4) would regain command though, as Gibb notched her second goal of the game on a put back of a Signey Milks (Gloucester, VA/Gloucester) shot at the 62:55 mark to close the scoring.

LC held a two-to-one shot advantage, doubling up the Bobcats 30-15, while also taking 10 penalty corners to FSU’s eight. Sarah Cates (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) made six saves for the Hornets, while counterpart Samantha Foland stopped six shots of her own.

Lynchburg will take on the Captains of Christopher Newport University Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in Newport News, VA in another non-conference game.
